The Taking Of k-129

Josh Dean

Project Azorian was the name of the secret CIA plan to locate and raise a sunken Soviet submarine called K-129. The submarine sank in 1968 and the operation to bring it to the surface was in 1974. Using deep sea mining by the reclusive billionaire Howard Hughes as a cover, the CIA attempted this daring plan. It was arguably the most expensive covert operation in world history. Author Josh Dean discusses this amazing true story, and some of the early innovations of the CIA which laid the groundwork for this operation.
